The Ningaloo Project
A field-data system for tracking nesting sites of four critically endangered sea turtle species.
The Ningaloo Project modernized data collection for four of the six most endangered sea turtle species in the world. The mobile app handled field collection (geo-location, photo capture, offline data caching), and the web dashboard handled the historical view, with sync between the two.
Working with marine biologists made me think about a question I’ve been chasing ever since: what’s the right tool for someone whose work happens outside cell coverage and whose data has to survive imperfect sync? Conservation tooling has a sharper definition of “reliable” than most consumer software will ever need.
